Mobile App for Children's Services »

delivered

Communication has been recognised in Trafford’s Children and Young People’s Strategy 2011-14 as one of the key areas for improvement based on consultation and feedback; engaging the public is one of the five priorities for “achieving the vision”. Throughout the consultation process for the strategy, children and young people and their parents consistently expressed a desire to be able to better access information and to be able to deliver effective feedback in a manner where it is felt to be constructive and useful. Discussions with young people in Trafford Youth Cabinet revealed an interest in a phone-based app, but also highlighted that it should be cross platform: as Apple products are expensive, young people often cannot afford to buy such products. Blackberry appears particularly popular with young people although it is anticipated that this will change as time goes on. Other suggestions included using Bluetooth technology to promote engagement as well as utilising facebook features such as adverts.

CCTV cameras »

delivered

The CCTV monitoring service is provided by the Council and currently housed within the Town Hall. The redevelopment of the Town Hall has prompted a review of the service and where best the service can be provided from. Following discussions with GMP it has been agreed that the service will be relocated within Stretford Police Station to build upon the close working relationship between the Monitoring officers and Police personnel. The move will remove the locational boundaries which have hampered full integration of the intelligence available. The review also highlighted that the cost of a ‘lift and shift’ of the existing monitoring matrix would be the same cost as would purchasing a new IP based system which is digital and wireless based providing higher quality pictures. There is also the advantage that upto a 1,000 cameras can be added to the matrix, current provision is 120.
