Our Call »

in-progress

Our Call allows employees to suggest ideas for improvement of services. These ideas need to gain sufficient support from other employees before they progress to the second stage. Then an outline business case is pulled together by a business support officer working with the idea originator. If this is approved by the facilitation team then it is put before the transformation board for a decision to proceed or not.

Locality approach to Reducing Childhood Obesity »

delivered

This project seeks to create a targeted approach to tackling childhood obesity through work with schools, budgeting and weight management programmes. Obesity among children and young people is increasing, particularly year 6 pupils (aged 10 and 11) in the North and West of the Trafford borough. Overweight and obese children are more likely to become obese adults, leading to a higher risk of health problems throughout their life. Obesity creates a massive economic burden. The Foresight report – Tackling Obesities forecast that the NHS costs of diseases attributable to elevated body mass index (BMI) are already estimated to be £4.2 billion and that these costs will almost double by 2050. In addition, it is estimated that the costs to the wider economy in this country are already £16 billion and if trends continue this will reach £50 billion by 2050.

Clean Start »

delivered

Cleanstart is a project that seeks to reduce re-offending rates by finding employment opportunities for ex-offenders. Cleanstart became operational in September 2008 and has been so successful in reducing offending among the target group that it has received national recognition- in 2010 our Senior Manager was invited to London by Secretary of State Crispin Blunt MP to explain the thinking behind the project to the Ministry of Justice, and in 2011 we won a Business in the Community Award under the category of Work Inclusion. Some figures to summarise the results of Cleanstart so far: 18 PPOs have left the programme since it began in September 2008, of whom: 11 (61%) completed six months with Cleanstart then moved onto employment, either with Trafford Housing Trust or another organisation. 5 (28%) left the programme without completing six months, but have not reoffended. 2 (11%) left the programme without completing six months, and have since returned to prison. Greater Manchester Police calculate that by diverting Priority Prolific Offenders from crime, the project has so far delivered savings to the taxpayer in excess of £3 million.
